Jan Wijn

Homage to Jan Wijn

For 58 years, Jan Wijn taught piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. The list of his students reads like a history of the Dutch piano school: Ronald Brautigam, Wibi Soerjadi, Marietta Petkova, Hannes Minnaar, Nino Gvetadze, Lucas and Arthur Jussen, Caspar Vos and Lucie Horsch. For a year and a half, Trouw editor Sandra Kooke spoke regularly with him, his colleagues and students about his work. From these conversations and experiences she drew seven lessons that she presents in the book Speel! The lessons of Jan Wijn. This nestor of piano education playfully and stubbornly created the soil on which Dutch musical life floats. This afternoon, some of his former students pay tribute to Jan Wijn: Nino Gvetadze, Bart van de Roer and Thomas Beijer. Sandra Kooke talks about the creation of her book, and of course the master himself is present!
