Thijs Willers (born 2006) started playing the piano at the age of 5 and is currently in the second year of his bachelor’s degree program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with David Kuyken. His previous teachers include Mila Baslawskaja, Ivan Penkov, and Maaike Eijkman. In 2023, he won the national first prize at the Princess Christina Competition. Aarón Ormaza Vera has previously been a guest at BIJ ANDREAS, including in the Discovery concerts of the 2024 Naarden International Piano Festival.
Thijs will play Chopin’s Ballade nr. 4 and Rachmaninov’s fourth Moment musicaux, among others. He has also included two Dutch composers in his program. He opens the concert with three of the Six Preludes for Piano by Henriëtte Bosmans, the first of her own pieces that the pianist and composer played in the Kleinze Zaal of the Concertgebouw in 1918. In addition, Thijs van Joey Roukens will play Roaming Empty Streets, written for Ralph van Raat in 2020. Aarón has put together a programme with pieces for the left hand of Saint-Saëns, Alexander Scriabin, Jurriaan Andriessen and the composer, conductor and pianist Cor de Groot, who died in 1993. He concludes with Chopin’s Fantaisie in F opus 49.
